On /15/25 I searched the Sunnova Complaints Facebook group for “removal” and found numerous threads with claims of outrageous Sunnova fees.

I had the same problem when I had to replace my roof. Sunnova wantwd over 10k to remove and reinstall.
However since I was financing to own my panels. I didn’t need the permission or approval of sunnova to use my own contractor to remove and reinstall.I saved 7k by shopping around for a private contractor.
$10,000? Seriously?
According to this post, Sunnova refused to honor the terms of the contract they “took over.”
I had a similar situation. This was my original agreement with the company I signed up with before Sunnova. When Sunnova took over they agreed to honor the entire agreement; luckily I saved that letter from them stating this. If you have it your agreement keep pushing the issue. I started in October and now at the end of January they are honoring it. Keep escalating with customer service and file a complaint to the BBB. This scenario sounds like they have a canned script they read off to all customers with this situation because they don’t want to honor this R&R part of these agreements
If/when Sunnova goes bankrupt, some other company will take over and will likely try to NOT honor the terms of the original contract.
Another FB comment:
And that is how it is. I have yet to hear from anyone who successfully sued Sunnova.
Here is a destroyed house:
Did the residents get dementia, autoimmune diseases, or other medical problems from the MOLD?
I’ve watched two of my neighbors get Alzheimer’s after living in houses with roof leaks. One is now dead, the other moved to assisted living.
So many posts regarding problems with Sunnova and roof repairs!
Tile roofs should never be used for solar panels as my client has been waiting for repairs for over half a year.
Sunnova claims to have to hire a roofing contractor to remove tiles so their techs can safely make the system repairs.
I designed my house with a flat roof facing south, requiring only elastomeric paint and membrane for roofing and repairs. I can still install, repair, remove, and maintain my $4,000 off-grid system. I’m 65 years old.
If you have a sunny space facing south, do NOT install panels on roofs as it’s so much better to keep them on the ground.
It’s nightmarish to do roof repairs and replacements unless you have a roof like mine:
Fortunately, it doesn’t snow that often in my area.
My panels look awful. I repainted my roof in sections and moved the panels “temporarily”. Been busy.
If you live in a climate where it snows a lot, keep that in mind!
The contract might even require you to clean the panels.
Are you comfortable with that?
